Giorgio Mercandelli

Wine maker for almost 40 years, believes that his wines are a new revolution, a new movement to enjoying what we see as a culture through appreciation of wines. He believes that the purest form of wine is the capability to reflect the origin, the source of life and how it evolves to become a new state… one that reflects its own experience. In 2007, he created the first biotic wine in the world, and in 2012 founded the winery (previously named RiLUCe) where their philosophy of light and nature, combined with the ancient years of the vineyards create what GIORGIO MERCANDELLI is all about.

The Winery

The vineyard yields the form and essence of a wine that reveals itself in all its naturalness, the fruit of manual labour that follows the movements of the sun, the frequencies of life. The very essence that represents GIORGIO MERCANDELLI.

Wine as he sees is life of its own, an interpretation of life and all its nuances. His method, beyond biodynamics; allowing the most natural form of the fruit evolve as it is, in the bottle.

Giorgio’s winemaking is not just a case of transforming sugar into alcohol, but destroying every material component of the grape, from the proteins to the tannins, and decompose it into the light and have it be reborn as an essence in the bottle through indigenous yeast; the very key to the terroir.

Wines from pure ancient vineyards. Every label is based on the synaesthetic relationship between a color and the sound of a letter, reflecting the relationship between the winemaker and a single vineyard.

When opened, life goes into the wine, giving it light and ways to bring out the essence crafted meticulously by the winemaker.

When closed (with a simple cork), life stops. The wine stands still awaiting for new life to breathe and experienced for the next enjoyment. No coravin, no stoppers, just a simple cork. Lasting at least to perfect for no less than 2 weeks.

80 -100 years old vineyards

The first alchemical wine, a work that reflects the meaning of my existence in a cuvée that combines the experience of three ancient vineyards in the harmony of a single bottle. In the glass it reflects a crystalline matrix linked to the colors of cosmic light, bathochromically active on the frequencies of orange, which transmutes into different shades of red to encourage the gaze towards life evolving in reality. Its scent is atavistic and at the same time new; it moves through the mind to stimulate thoughts towards the future of existence.

110 years old vineyard

A wine that preserves the experience of a beautiful vineyard from 1900, located on a hill of red soil where the plants, low and sinuous, seemed to grow on embers. It stretched alongside a young chestnut forest, on a strip of soil dotted with a myriad of small flowers and wild herbs that grew like a fresh mountain meadow. The colors developed in the glass are cosmic, like the vortices of light it generates from a cloud of orange frequencies that extend bathochromically towards red.

100 years old vineyard

If I owe something to life I also owe it to this ancient vineyard that changed the meaning of my existence. The hill of that vineyard was magical and unreal. It was impervious, steep and dangerous, but the desire to understand the forces that reigned over its unknown nature had become decisive. After my father's death that land brought me back to life with my first experience as a craftsman. It's a wine animated by a strong cosmic energy. In the glass it develops lunar frequencies expressed in vortices of lights that invite the gaze towards the boundaries of the cosmos.

160 years old vineyard

The owners told me that that vineyard was planted around 1860 and I thought that at that age the plants were more fragile, but instead they proved to be solid, stubborn and stronger than ever. They were beautiful, long and voluptuous, with composed, essential, almost minimalist foliage. They sprouted like bonsai trees. The liquid develops a collection of red frequencies that expand bathochromically to express a cosmic movement bringing the mind back to an immersive stellar experience.

100 years old vineyard

A solar liquid that develops the forces of earth and sky with a surprising collection of yellows and an impressive density of tones, pure liquid gold. It seemed impossible that one of the most significant wines of my life would be born from that abandoned vineyard, because its plants were like femurs of dry wood, stumps petrified by time. But their desire to live was the same I wanted to rediscover to realize a wine that reflected the value of a rebirth, an event linked to eternity.

110 years old vineyard

It was born from a vineyard dating back to 1904, which had ceased to exist for more than twenty years, where the poles were on the ground and the plants crawled under a tangle of wild roses. After three years of delicate care the vines performed the miracle of wine. In the glass it spreads like a cosmic cloud, which fascinates the gaze towards its
immortal nature.

LIQUID ART expresses the eternity of life flowing through the vineyards up to the bottle.

The artwork consists of two parts:

alchemic wine, that disappears into the taster’s body and soul to become an existential experience,
the images painted on the bottles that reflect the same creative pattern of life.
